Michigan Highlights: Part 1

Well, Jesse and I made it back home just after midnight last night. What a whirlwind of a day and trip, for that matter! It always goes by too fast and when the time comes to leave, I get very sad. I love Alpena when I’m there, but I also love Portland when I’m here. I wish I could just freely travel between both places more often, but maybe in time that’ll happen. Jesse and I have tossed around some ideas about putting together some sort of program or workshop we could offer at our local gym back home, which would allow us to travel more between both places and possibly for a longer duration of time. We just need to write our plan down and put it into action. It’ll happen … we’re both sure of it!

Anyway, here are some highlights of my trip. These ones are nonfood related, but there will be some food ones to come.

My mom and dad dancing at their early surprise anniversary party.
My family and I surprised my parents with an early 35th anniversary party. Their anniversary is actually at the end of October, but with everyone being home (Jesse and me from PDX, my sister and her boyfriend from Austria, and my other sis and her husband and kids from the Detroit area) we decided now was the best time. My Grandma and Grandpa Boboltz, cousins, aunts and uncles were there too. It was a lot of fun and a nice way to kickoff my trip back home.

Jesse hoopin' it up! Cousin Angela had three different hula hoops in her car and we all thought it was a good idea to make them part of the celebration! Jesse proved to be a natural hooper.

Approaching Long Lake sandies.

Concert out on Long Lake. Pretty cool setup, hey?

Jesse and his brother, Nick, hanging on and ready for a ride. They both got knocked off the tube a few times and went for quite the ride! It cracks me up how much these two look like little boys in this picture, especially with the kid-like, around-the-neck, orange life jackets. These were the only lifejackets on the boat that fit them. Jesse and I tubed together after this and I was fortunate to fit inside a little kid’s, zip-up life jacket. I guess that’s the perk of having literally no boobs. I think I’d rather it be the other way around though!
Our friend, Eric, and Nick (Jesse's brother) being goofballs on the tube!
Our friend, Eric (AKA Laser … do you see that American Gladiators style suit?!), and Nick (Jesse’s brother) being goofballs on the tube. Stacie, Eric’s wife, took them for a hell of a ride! Nick said his lifejacket was choking him, so he decided to wear it over his shoulder.

North Bay
Jesse and I spent an afternoon swimming and lounging at North Bay, about a 25-minute ride from Alpena.

Jesse testing the water. For those who don’t know, he’s also known as Aqua Man … he LOVES the water and often swims with goggles and flippers, and sometimes even frog paws.
Sportin' Jesse's goggles. They make me look cross-eyed and just about sucked my eyes out when I took them off (lots of suction action going on)!

Now I have the ladybug

Now Jesse is playing with the ladybug. Later on, we made a little obstacle course in the sand for the ladybug. Innocent and childlike fun.

What a fun trip!! Love that you threw your parents an anniversary party! So sweet!!! And time on the water is the key to a fabulous summer!

Thanks, Corrie Anne! It was a fun trip and my parents were completely thrown off guard by the surprise party! Having quick access to water (and numerous choices) is one of the best things about my hometown in the summer. That’s one thing I really miss out in Portland and always look forward to when I go back home.
